DUDE CHEM Successfully Completes Second Tech Transfer to SONEAS in Budapest
DUDE CHEM has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to bring essential Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) back to Europe with the completion of a new technology transfer to SONEAS Chemicals Ltd. in Budapest. Led by co-founder and managing director Tino Mundt, with key support from team members Alexandre Vieira Silva and Luka Zivkovic, this achievement marks a crucial step toward scaling up the production of a second product vital to local pharmaceutical supply chains.
Strengthening European Pharmaceutical Supply Chains
In today’s interconnected global landscape, Europe’s dependence on non-EU sources for fundamental pharmaceutical starting materials presents ongoing challenges. Our collaboration with SONEAS directly addresses this vulnerability by establishing a robust European-based supply chain capable of withstanding global disruptions and responding efficiently to local demands.
This technology transfer focuses on a critical starting material that has traditionally been sourced from Asia. DUDE CHEM is among the first companies in years to establish local production, significantly enhancing European supply chain resilience. Our technical team conducted thorough lab and analytical familiarization at SONEAS’s Budapest facility, confirming that our proprietary processes are fully prepared for scale-up operations.
Sustainable Manufacturing at Scale
The successful transfer demonstrates how localizing API production delivers multiple benefits:
Waste reduction of up to 70%
CO₂ emissions decreased by 40%
Enhanced supply chain security
Maintained cost-competitiveness
"We’re proud to say that we developed a production route at a competitive price, ensuring that local production can meet market demands affordably. Reliable local production of these key materials helps fight against drug shortages in pharmacies and mitigates risks at a larger level. In times of geopolitical tension, we must avoid vulnerabilities that could impact national health—a vital infrastructure."
-Tino Mundt, Chief Engineer at DUDE CHEM
Future Development
With this successful technology transfer completed, DUDE CHEM is positioned to advance additional collaborations that strengthen European pharmaceutical independence while maintaining our commitment to sustainable manufacturing. Our asset-light, high-impact model continues to prove effective in minimizing dependencies while maximizing scalability through partnerships with experienced local manufacturers.
The SONEAS collaboration demonstrates that reshoring production can simultaneously address security, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness requirements. As we move forward, DUDE CHEM remains committed to advancing green chemistry practices and strengthening Europe’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
